The Ohio State University and UK's Royal Shakespeare Company have joined in an international partnership which focuses on guest artist residencies, professional development for K-12 teachers, and teaching artist training. The RSC’s innovative Stand Up for Shakespeare pedagogy—“See It Live - Do It On Your Feet - Start It Earlier”--is at the core of this affiliation. To date 38 Ohio public schoolteachers and 10 Ohio State Department of Theatre MFA acting students have traveled to Stratford-upon-Avon England to work with RSC actors and educators. The 40 public schoolteachers have taught over 3,000 K-12 students.
New York City Gala
Ohio State is joining with Lincoln Center Festival and Park Avenue Armory to bring the Royal Shakespeare Company to America for an unprecedented six-week New York residency in summer 2011. It will be the first time in RSC's long history of tours to America that the company will perform a full season of five Shakespeare plays in repertory, for 45 performances, July 6–August 14, in a specially constructed replica of the RSC's Stratford-Upon-Avon thrust-stage theater—named for this occasion the Scarlet & Gray Stage. On the evening of July 12, 2011, we invite Ohio State alumni, supporters, students, faculty, and friends to an exclusive performance of Romeo and Juliet by the RSC. Proceeds from this performance will raise $1 million for The Ohio State University Arts Initiative and its ongoing relationship with the Royal Shakespeare Company.
